I think part of the fascination for many white guys with the show Mad Men is that it is a window into an attractive (to them) world of white male dominance and privilege that has largely disappeared.

I don’t think this is actually that true of Mad Men. But watch Gran Torino with a man and it’s clear which side of the culture wars he’s on. Do you wish you could share in Kowalski’s growing love of Hmong food or his apparent freedom to hurl racist insults at anyone he pleases?
